ALASKAN CARIBOU
We offer 2 options for Alaska caribou hunting; fully guided, unguided (with equipment rental). These options let each hunter choose the one best suited to their personal needs and preferences.
A 40-minute plane ride from Nome, your hunt will start at a Nomad Adventure's remote base camp. The majority of caribou hunting takes place from various spike camps throughout the Seward Peninsula. These spike camps increase the odds for success. We use a fleet of 8-wheel Argos while we search for a bull caribou. All of our Argos have enclosed cabs and help protect hunters from the rain and wind. Final stalks can range from a mile to as little as 100 yards.
August makes up Alaska’s rainy season. Hunters should be prepared for rain. Hunters should also be prepared for thick gnats and mosquitoes and should bring bug nets to cover their faces. The area is a true refuge. We try as hard as possible not to leave a footprint.
The hunter is responsible for purchasing their hunting license and caribou tag, as well as lodging and meals while in Nome, AK. The hunter may take the backstraps and up to 100lbs from his/her caribou. The rest of the meat will be donated to the local residents.
• This is an over the counter tag.
• This a 5-day hunt with a travel day on each end.
• For an additional cost on fully guided hunts, hunters may add grizzly bear with an additional trophy fee upon harvest.
• Hunters may add wolf and wolverine with an additional trophy fee upon harvest.
• Hunters CAN NOT add moose as a trophy fee to this hunt.

UNGUIDED HUNT - *At this Time we are not offering this option.*
Our unguided caribou package is perfect for the do it yourself hunter. Hunting caribou in remote Northwest Alaska can bring many challenges in preparing for a hunt. Items such as buying and shipping all of the camping equipment, buying food, cooking equipment and fuel, transportation to and from the field, transportation in town, dealing with the meat, capes, and antlers, return shipping, and many other items to address. When hunting with Nomad Adventures, you will have help and guidance, allowing you to concentrate on enjoying your hunt. We take care of all the logistics and provide you with detailed information about your hunt. We provide you with an information list that answers common questions. We provide you with a packing list, that will ensure you have the proper and necessary items with you.
Upon arrival, hunters will be picked up at the Nome airport and then flown to Nomad Adventure’s Base camp. Here they will be given a detailed orientation, look at all the equipment and food that we provide, and get all of their personal equipment. Hunters are then drove in an argo out to the field with all necessary camping equipment and food to a location we feel will be the best for success. We encourage hunters to buy a wolf and wolverine tag. If you are into fishing, you will want to also purchase a fishing license, and bring according gear. Northwest Alaska has fantastic char and grayling fishing. Char can grow to over 20 pounds in this region. At the end of your hunt, you will be drove back to base camp and then flown back to Nome along with your gear, meat, and trophies. Our personnel will assist you in making arrangements to expedite your trophies.
GUIDED HUNT
Our fully guided caribou hunt is for hunters who prefer to have help with all the work that Alaska caribou hunting entails. All guides are professional and excellent hunters as well as outdoorsmen. They are also first aid and CPR certified, in case of that unexpected emergency. In these camps we have satellite phones for communications and emergency use. Our professional guides will work hard for you both in camp, and in finding a trophy caribou that you will be proud to hang on the wall. This hunt is a great hunt to combo with grizzly bear and wolf. Hunting days will be spent glassing the mountains for caribou.
Alaska weather can be very unpredictable and at times unsafe to fly. Experience in dealing with the sometimes harsh and ever-changing weather conditions, as well as the terrain within the hunting area is essential. No one (including us) likes to encounter weather delays. Should such a delay happen, our experienced staff will do all they can to assist you while staying in town, or out in the field. There are many components which all come together when referring to expertise.
All hunts are conducted in parties of two Argos. Therefore, all hunts are 2 hunters per guide with another driver or packer in the hunting party.
